Four Freshmen Songs - Alphabetically

Introduction to Four Freshmen Song List -- a/o January 2006

First I want to thank those who replied to my request for comments on the 2005 list.  Additions and corrections came from Joe Spear and Berkley Moore; their effort towards making this list an accurate one is especially appreciated.

Corrections and Comments include:

1. The "Fabulous Four Freshmen LP" album release date was listed as 1967 but Ross Barbour’s book, Now You Know, shows 1970.  Can’t find a better source than my fellow Hoosier, Ross!

2. Also, as Ross writes in his book, the songs in this "Fabulous Four Freshmen LP" came from Freshmen albums, "Voices In Modern" and "The 4 Freshmen and 5 Trombones."  Ross clarified that Capitol first released Group 2 "Voices In Modern" as a 10-inch LP, then added two songs to make a 12-inch LP. However, the two added songs were recorded earlier by Group 1.  This correction is in this new issue.

3. Ross Barbour’s Four Freshmen piece that comes with The Complete Capitol Four Freshmen Fifties Sessions contains a wonderful narration on this era of Freshmen history.  I’ve corrected several mistakes in my previous list of songs by carefully reviewing the details in this classic writing.  All Freshmen fans should have this CD collection.

4. Some pointed out that I had omitted some of re-releases especially the foreign ones.  I believe that Geoff Kaiser’s 9 September 1995 "Four Freshmen Discography" is an excellent document available to all Four Freshmen fans.  This very comprehensive reference digs deep into the Freshmen’s recording history.  My list, except for some personal interests, covers recordings that are or have been readily available for sale to Freshmen fans throughout the past fifty years.

5. Finally, with Group 22's DVD of the 2004 FFS convention and reunion, the spectrum of freshmen titles is brought into the 21st century. And – there’ll be more to come!!!
